I’ve been practicing as a Physical Therapist for over 20 years. Over the years, I have worked frequently with people experiencing chronic pain. I found that physical modalities did help to ease the pain, but I felt I was missing the bigger picture. I began exploring other treatment modalities to address the body as a whole and heal not only the physical body but other energy bodies as well. I take an intuitive approach to select the appropriate treatment based on the individual. I am happy to have the opportunity to use all of my tools to assist the body with healing.

Pooya is a native of New Orleans who grew up playing sports year round and cheering on his beloved Saints during football season. He came to Austin in 1999 to attend the University of Texas where he tore his ACL during his sophomore year and ended up in a physical therapy clinic for the first time ever. It was there he discovered that he had a passion for physical therapy and helping others overcome their pain and injuries. After graduating from Tx State physical therapy school in 2006 he began his journey practicing home health physical therapy treating various conditions and diagnoses all across the greater Austin area. It was during this time he was also dealing with a neck injury which became chronic for many years, but gave him great insight into how pain operates in the body. He became very interested in the mind/body/emotion connection as well as Eastern medicine and acupuncture, taking several courses at the AOMA integrative school of medicine in Austin. It was only appropriate that he eventually became certified in dry needling. Being a lifelong weekend warrior has also resulted in numerous strains, sprains, and disc herniations, all of which have helped him become a better therapist along the way. His calling is now to help others overcome their pain, whether it’s through unwinding fascial restrictions, correcting muscle imbalances/compensations, and/or restoring movement dysfunctions. He often incorporates manual therapy, myofascial release, soft tissue mobilization, cupping, dry needling, and IASTM, and is also a big proponent of teaching patients how to heal themselves with corrective exercises and self-adjustment techniques. Pooya is happy to have found a home at Beyond the Physical and is excited to now offer his holistic approach with his patients here!
